Johannes Westendorp studied guitar with Hein Sanderink at the Fontys Conservatory of Tilburg (Netherlands), taking masterclasses at the same period with Michael Langer, Thomas Müller-Pering, Raffaela Smits en Carlo Marchione and following courses contemporary chamber music with Leo Verheijen.
In 2003 he received a scholarship from the VSB Foundation, the Dorrie Stoop Foundation, the Vrijvrouwe van Renswoude Foundation and Dr. Hendrik Mullers Vaderlandsch Fonds Foundation to take lessons at the Conservatory of Gent (Belgium) with Tom Pauwels for contemporary guitar music and courses composition and free improvisation with Dr. Godfried-Willem Raes.
In 2004 he played as a guest musician with Morus; performing at the Facing True North festival, East Side Gallery (Berlin). In the same year he founded Cluster Klankcollectief with Merijn Bisschops; a pool of young Dutch composers and performers of new music. In 2005 Cluster cooperated with Muzieklab Brabant in the Volume 1 project investigating the relation between sound and space.
Since 2005 he is working on a major performance called Tijdwerk based on temporary and self destructing instruments. He is also participating in the organisation of DE LINK concerts in Tilburg.
As a guitarist he performs with Zwerm, a recently founded electric guitar quartet. At the moment he is working on a solo programm for both electric and acoustic guitar, and the performance .../Obstructie for three obstructing players.
